Type E Notice: Voting by Absentee Ballot

TYPE E NOTICE: VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may submit a request to vote by absentee ballot to their municipal clerk. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered to receive an absentee ballot. Proof of identification must be provided before an absentee ballot may be issued.

You must make a request for an absentee ballot to be mailed to you in writing or online at MyVote.wi.gov.

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the primary or election or both. You may also submit a written request in the form of a letter, or you may apply for an absentee ballot online at MyVote.wi.gov. Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature. You may make application to your municipal clerk for an absentee ballot in person, by mail, by email, or at MyVote.wi.gov.

Making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is: 5 pm on the fifth day before the election, October 29, 2026

Note: Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the municipal clerk regarding deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.

Voting an absentee ballot in person

You may also request and vote an absentee ballot in the clerk's office during the days and hours specified for casting an absentee ballot in person.

The first day to vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office is: October 20, 2026

The last day to vote an absentee ballot in the clerk's office: October 31, 2026

No in-person absentee voting may occur on the day before the election. (November 2, 2026)

The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the proper polling place or counting location before the polls close on November 3, 2026.

Any ballots received after the polls close will not be counted.

November 3, 2026 General Election

The next Election is Tuesday  November 3, 20226

There will be races for Governor/Lt Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Representative in Congress District 3, Representative for the Assembly District 70, Jackson County Sheriff, and Clerk of County Courts.

There will also be 3 Referendums on the back of the ballot. 

 

2026 Wisconsin Constitutional Referendum Questions

The Town of Garfield would like to provide residents with a plain-language explanation of the three constitutional referendum questions that will appear on the upcoming November 2026 election ballot.

The purpose of this post is informational only. The Town of Garfield, its Officers, Directors, Employees, and Volunteers are not supporting or opposing any of the questions. Voters should review the questions and make their own decision.

QUESTION 1 – Governor’s Partial Veto

Question: Shall section 10 (1) (c) of article V of the constitution be amended to prohibit the governor, in exercising his or her partial veto authority, from creating or increasing or authorizing the creation or increase of any tax or fee?

In simple terms: This question asks whether the Governor should be prohibited from using the partial veto power to create a new tax or fee, or increase an existing tax or fee.

QUESTION 2 – Religious Gatherings During Emergencies

Question: Shall section 18 of article I of the constitution, which deals with religious liberty, be amended to prohibit the state or a political subdivision of the state from ordering the closure of, or forbidding gatherings in, places of worship in response to a state of emergency, including a public health emergency?

In simple terms: This question asks whether churches and other places of worship could be required by state or local government to close or stop religious gatherings during an emergency.

QUESTION 3 – Governmental Discrimination and Preferential Treatment

Question: Shall section 27 of article I of the constitution be created to prohibit governmental entities in the state from discriminating against, or granting preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education, public contracting, or public administration?

In simple terms: This question asks whether state and local governments should be prohibited from discriminating against people or giving special preference to people based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in government jobs, public education, government contracts, or government administration.

📌 Important: These explanations are intended only to make the ballot questions easier to understand. They are not intended to persuade voters to vote for or against any referendum.

Voters can check their registration, polling place, and ballot information through the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s  MyVote Wisconsin website.

Notice is hereby given that a PreLAT and Public Test of the voting equipment will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2026  in the Garfield Town Hall, N12915 W. Hillcrest Rd, Osseo, WI 54758 at 1:00 p.m. The Public is welcome to attend. The town hall is handicapped accessible.
