Recycling Center

The recycling center is located on W. Hillcrest Rd. just north of Hwy B. It is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

Only clean items that are recyclable AND are accepted by our vendor should be placed in the recycling dumpster. A list is available at the recycling center. There is no charge for recycling.

GARBAGE

A garbage dumpster is located next to the recycling center on W. Hillcrest Rd. Residents may dispose of non-recyclable trash at the rate of $3 per 33 gallon bag. Prepaid bags are available for sale during recycling hours – Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

NO ANIMAL CARCASSES OR PARTS OF CARCASSES MAY BE DISPOSED OF IN THIS DUMPSTER!

The cost of the garbage bags is due to "tipping fees" (state tax) charged to dumpster suppliers and passed on to customers.

BURNING

The Town of Garfield is in the DNR intensive fire protection area. Burning permits are required for both burning barrels and piles burned on the ground.

Burning permits are available from the DNR in Augusta, Trails’ End on Hwy 10, or from Town Clerk Michel Berner. They are also available at the Recycling Center during recycling hours.

Information on burning times, materials that may be burned, and other regulations are available with permits. There is no charge for burning permits.
Always call the DNR Burning Hotline - 888-947-2876 to determine burning conditions EVERY TIME!
